People Express helped Woodville Infants School to develop and run their own creative activities project. Children learnt about different cultures from across the world. The beautiful artwork created is displayed at the school.
Asian Arts Week
Every child in the school experienced culture from Asia during a special week in summer 2015. Activities included Bollywood dance, Sushi-Making, South East Asian Dance, sampling Malaysian cuisine and a two-day residency with London based visual artist, Chila Burman creating life-size, collages inspired by Asian culture.
Healthy Eating Banners
Year One pupils worked with textile artist, Karen Herrick from Harlequin Arts exploring different techniques used on fabric including mono-printing, block-printing, sewing and felt work. They researched foods from around the world and healthy eating options to create six-large banners for the dining hall.
Bringing the project to an end in July 2016, London based installation artist Lee Borthwick worked with Year Two pupils to create an outdoor sculpture based on the school logo of the owl. She ran a three day residency with the children creating feathers needed for the sculpture, she took these away and made the frame of the sculpture with individually named feathers from each child. Her work uses natural materials drawing out their beauty and is combined with tactile and reflective objects such as mirror plates.
